Apps that mirror your phone
They send texts from your usual number, which is handy at your desk. Most of them need the phone switched on, charged and connected, and some only pair with one brand of phone.
Send a text message to family and friends in 34 countries from your computer or phone, with a number of your own. Replies come back to the same conversation. No SIM card needed: all your conversations, contacts and text messages are online, in the cloud.
How it works
Sign up with your email or a Google account. It takes about a minute, and you do not need a card.
Enter your name and address for billing. A US number also needs a postal address in the United States. Then top up your balance in the panel.
A US number texts the US, Canada and Mexico. A Swedish number texts 31 countries in Europe, including the UK. Pick the one that covers the people you write to.
Open your Inbox, start a new message, type the number with its country code and press send. The reply appears in the same conversation.
International texting
Choose the country of the person you want to text. You will see the price of one SMS, what a reply costs and which of our numbers can reach them. You pay only for the texts you send and the replies you get, with no minimum.

Texting the United States
To text the UK or another European country in the list, you need a Swedish number. To text the United States, Canada or Mexico, you need a US number. For customers in the EU, VAT is added when you buy credit.
Compare
There are three common ways to send a text from a computer. Some tools put the texts from the phone in your pocket on a bigger screen, others only reach people with the same app, and a texting website gives you a number that lives online. Here is how they differ.
They send texts from your usual number, which is handy at your desk. Most of them need the phone switched on, charged and connected, and some only pair with one brand of phone.
They send messages over the internet, but only between people who have the same app. Someone without it will not get your message as a normal text.
This is how Virtnumber works. Your number lives in your account, so your phone can be lost, flat or at home. You write from any computer or phone to mobile phones in 34 countries, the replies come back to you, and there is no texting app to install.
Pay as you go
Put credit on your balance and each text is paid from it as you go. There is no monthly plan to choose and nothing to cancel. When the balance runs low, you top up again.
Start a new conversation with anyone your number can reach and chat with family, friends or for work, in any language and with emoji. A standard SMS holds up to 160 characters, and one with emoji or non-Latin letters (Unicode) up to 70; longer texts go out in parts of 153 or 67 characters, each paid as one SMS at the rate for that country, shown in the list above.
Your number takes incoming SMS from anyone, in any language and with emoji. Replies and new messages land in your Inbox as conversations, and each one is paid from the same balance.
Always with you: add as many numbers as you need, and your message history stays in your account wherever you sign in. Each number renews from the same balance until you delete it.
Who it is for
Each number can start conversations with up to 4 new people a day, so it stays a place for people you already know. Replying to someone who wrote to you does not count toward that.
Text parents, children and friends abroad from your computer, with a number that stays yours for as long as you keep it.
Lost, broken or out of battery? Sign in from another device and keep your conversations going.
Selling a bike, renting a flat or joining a club? Give out this number and keep your main one for the people who already have it.
Keep one number for everyone back home while you settle in somewhere new.
FAQ
Create an account, add credit and choose a number. Then open your Inbox, start a new message, type the recipient's number and press send. Your number lives in your account, not on a SIM card, so your own phone can be off or somewhere else.
Yes, as long as your number can reach it. A US number texts the US, Canada and Mexico. A Swedish number texts 31 countries in Europe, including the UK, but not the US. Type the number with a plus sign and the country code, for example +44 for the UK. The country picker above shows which number reaches each country.
Yes. Replies come back to your number and appear in the same conversation in your Inbox, and anyone who has your number can text you first. Each reply is billed as one SMS. Some countries require a number to be registered before it can appear as the sender of texts there. Until then, your message may reach the recipient from a different sender, and they can reply only if they know your number.
No. Your texts go out from the number you get here, and that is the number people see and reply to. You also cannot use a name or a company name as the sender ID: the sender is always your number.
No. You text in a web page, so any laptop, Chromebook, iPad or phone with an up-to-date browser works, and your conversations stay in your account when you switch devices.
Your number is yours alone, and your conversations are visible only in your account, which you can protect with two-factor sign-in or a passkey. To keep the service clean, every message goes through an automatic abuse check, each number can start up to 4 new conversations a day, and anyone who replies STOP gets no more texts from that number.
You need your billing details (name and address) on the account and enough credit for the number. A US number also needs a postal address in the United States. A Swedish number needs no address in Sweden, so it suits people who live anywhere.
You top up your balance in the panel and can check it there at any time. Credit stays on your balance for 365 days after your last top-up.
Create an account, add credit and choose a number. Your first conversation can start in a few minutes.
